The CLEVER External Advisory Board is composed of 4 academic and 1 non-academic experts with excellent scientific and/or industrial track records in EV research in general, and therapeutic applications specifically. The Board will (i) evaluate progress and results from the research program and achievements and training progress of the ESRs, (ii) identify and advise on challenges and set-backs, and (iii) ensure optimal continuation of the CLEVER research and training program and networking and collaboration efforts.
Professor Clotilde Théry
INSERM, Paris, France
Clotilde Théry is Research Director (DR2) at INSERM, working at Institut Curie in Paris (France) Her scientific interests focus on the physiological functions of exosome secretion during an in vivo immune response, especially during tumor growth. She organized an international symposium dedicated to Exosomes, in January 2011 in Paris which was at the origin of the subsequent launching of the International Society of Extracellular Vesicles (ISEV).
Professor Andy Hill
La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia
Andy Hill is the head of the Department of Biochemistry and Genetics (La Trobe Institute of Molecular Sciences). His research focusses on the basic biology of the prion protein and APP to understand their role in the disease process in more detail, with the goal of translating this into the design of novel therapeutics and diagnostics. Professor Hill is the current president of the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles ISEV
Dr Sai Kiang Lim
A*STAR, Singapore
Dr Sai Kiang Lim is the Research Director of the A*STAR Institute of Medical Biology. She was head of the team that described that extracellular vesicles are the main active component of the MSC-secreted paracrine factors in the reduction of injury after myocardial infarction. Current research focusees on the translation of these findings to clinical application.
Professor Jan Lötvall, MD, PhD, CSO
Codiak Biosciences, Boston, MA, USA
Professor Jan Lötvall is a specialist in clinical pharmacology as well as clinical allergy. He has over the last ten years been a pioneer in studies of the biological function of exosomes and other extracellular vesicles, and their natural ability of transferring RNA between cells, and published the first study documenting the ability of exosomes to send functional RNA into cells in 2007 in Nature Cell Biology. He is the and past-president of the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles.
Dr Randolph Corteling
ReNeuron Ltd, Bridgend, United Kingdom
Dr Randolph Corteling is the head of research at the regenerative medicine company ReNeuron Ltd., a leading, clinical-stage stem cell company. Their primaty objective is the development of novel stem cell therapies, for which currently phase IIb trials are running. Besides stem cells, ReNeuron is developing an exosome nanomedicine platform, exploiting the regenerative capacity of stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles.
